UFC on ESPN+ 18 poster released: The octagon makes its first trip to Denmark
The UFC is headed to Copenhagen on Sept. 28 for the promotion’s first ever trip to Denmark.
UFC on ESPN+ 18 takes place Sept. 28 at Royal Arena. The entire card is expected to stream on ESPN+.
The event will be headlined by the surging Jack Hermansson (20-4 MMA, 7-2 UFC), who takes on fellow top-ranked middleweight Jared Cannonier (12-4 MMA, 5-4 UFC). The co-main event features a bout between Gunnar Nelson (17-4-1 MMA, 8-4 UFC) and former UFC welterweight title challenger Thiago Alves (23-14 MMA, 15-11 UFC).
All four fighters are plastered on top of the Danish flag on the UFC on ESPN+ 18 poster, which was released by the promotion on Tuesday.
The Swedish-born Hermansson is coming off the biggest win of his career, a unanimous decision win over Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza at April’s UFC on ESPN+ 8. He now looks to extend his win streak to five in a row when he takes on Cannonier.
Since dropping down to middleweight, Cannonier has notched two big finishes over David Branch at UFC 230, and Anderson Silva via TKO due to a leg injury at UFC 237. Cannonier chopped away at the legs of “The Spider,” buckling his knee and resulting in a big win for “The Killa Gorilla”.
Nelson dropped his last fight to Leon Edwards via split decision at UFC on ESPN+ 5 in March. He is set to compete in Europe for the 10th time in his UFC career and has never lost back-to-back fights, as he looks to get back in the win column when he faces “The Pitbull.”
Alves is entering his 27th fight in the UFC and has lost five of his last seven outings. He is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Laureano Staropoli at UFC 237 in May, and will face a stern test in submission artist Nelson.
Also featured on the card, is Denmark’s own Nicolas Dalby (17-3-1 MMA, 1-3-1 UFC), who is set to return to the UFC when he takes on Brazil’s Alex “Cowboy” Oliveira (19-7-1 MMA, 9-5-1 UFC).
